The long-awaited successor to the original Phoenix film is finally here — meet HARMAN Phoenix II, the newest experimental colour film made entirely at the HARMAN factory in Mobberley, UK. This brand-new emulsion promises better performance, refined aesthetics, and exciting possibilities for film photographers eager to explore the next evolution in analogue colour.
What is HARMAN Phoenix II?
HARMAN Phoenix II is a completely redesigned colour negative film with very little in common with the original Phoenix. While the first Phoenix gained a cult following for its unique look and unpredictable results, Phoenix II represents a step forward in colour accuracy, contrast control, and sharpness — making it easier to shoot, scan, and appreciate.
With a true DX-coded ISO 200 rating, this film offers flexible exposure latitude (ISO 100–200 is ideal), improved highlight/shadow retention, and significantly better lab scanning performance — especially on Noritsu and Fuji Frontier systems.
What’s New in Phoenix II?
Unlike its predecessor, Phoenix II is built from the ground up with:
A brand-new emulsion
Redesigned dyes, couplers, and layers
Enhanced colour reproduction
Reduced grain and improved contrast
Greater scanning consistency
Improved exposure latitude
These technical upgrades make it more usable for everyday shooting while retaining the experimental charm that drew photographers to the original.
Still Experimental — But More Refined
Yes, Phoenix II is still considered experimental — it has no colour mask, so negatives may look different from traditional C-41 films. It’s designed for those who want to try something different and push creative boundaries. As HARMAN continues developing its colour film technology, we can expect future iterations to become even more refined.
Available in 35mm and 120 Formats
In response to community feedback, Phoenix II is launching simultaneously in both 35mm (36 exposures) and 120 medium format. This marks a first for HARMAN’s colour line and reflects the brand’s commitment to listening to photographers and supporting the future of film.
Now Available for Purchase
HARMAN Phoenix II is officially here — and available to buy now! Both 35mm (36 exposures) and 120 medium format rolls are in stock and ready for purchase. Whether you’re restocking your fridge or trying this film for the first time, there’s no better time to explore the next chapter in HARMAN’s colour film journey.
