Shipping Film to Us from the USA – Customs Form Instructions
If you’re sending film to us from outside Canada (especially the USA), it’s important to fill out your customs form correctly so that you don’t get charged extra and we don’t have to bill you for Canadian duties and GST. Here’s exactly what to write on your customs declaration:
- Description of goods:
Exposed photographic film – for processing only – no commercial value – to be returned to sender
- Quantity & value:
Number of rolls and a low replacement value (e.g. $1–5 per roll) — this is for insurance only, not the processing cost.
- Country of origin:
USA (if your film was made in the U.S.)
- Reason for export:
Temporary export for processing
- HS Tariff code (optional):
3704.00
Important:
Do not declare the retail price you paid for the film and processing.
This is not a purchase — it’s your property being returned after service.
If you declare the full retail price or call it “film,” “photo prints,” or “goods for sale,” Canadian customs will charge duties/GST and we will have to invoice you before returning your order.
